Sec. 11403 - Purpose

§11403. Purpose

The purpose of the program authorized under this part is to provide rental housing assistance, in connection with supportive services funded from sources other than this part, to homeless persons with disabilities (primarily persons who are seriously mentally ill, have chronic problems with alcohol, drugs, or both, or have acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and related diseases) and the families of such persons.

Repeal of Section

Pub. L. 111–22, div. B, title V, §§1501, 1503, May 20, 2009, 123 Stat. 1701, 1702, provided that, effective on, and applicable beginning on, the earlier of the expiration of the 18-month period beginning on May 20, 2009, or the expiration of the 3-month period beginning upon publication by the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development of final regulations pursuant to section 1504 of Pub. L. 111–22, this section is repealed.

Establishment of Requirements by Notice; Issuance of Regulations

Pub. L. 101–625, title VIII, §837(b), Nov. 28, 1990, 104 Stat. 4374, as amended by Pub. L. 106–400, §2, Oct. 30, 2000, 114 Stat. 1675, provided that: “Not later than 180 days after the date funds authorized under section 459 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act [section 11403h of this title], as amended by this section, first become available for obligation, the Secretary shall by notice establish such requirements as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of subtitle F of that Act [this part]. Such requirements shall be subject to section 553 of title 5, United States Code. The Secretary shall issue regulations based on the initial notice before the expiration of the eight-month period following the date of the notice. The Secretary shall issue regulations based on the initial notice before the expiration of the 8-month period following the date of the notice. In developing program guidelines and regulations to implement such subtitle, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development may consult with the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to supportive services aspects of this subtitle [subtitle C (§§821–841) of title VIII of Pub. L. 101–625, see Tables for classification].”
